MIA ...

Well hello there!!

I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted!  Thanks to all the other lovely ladies for holding down the fort while I've been M.I.A!  The holidays were super busy (as usual), but now that they're over, I'm going to get back to business!

If you've read any of my posts, you know my love for hair accessories.  I made them for my two little girls to start with, and then for friends with newborns.  I enjoyed it so much that I thought it would be fun to start a little business selling them.  It's called  Juli's Bowtique, so check it out if you want! :)  So from time to time, in between other crafts, I'm going to share some of the new creations that I've come up with.  I'd love to know what you think of them!  I'm still new at this, so any suggestions are welcome (as long as they're nice :) ).

This first one was a custom order for a friend.  She told me the general idea of what she wanted, and then just let me create!  It was so fun!

Doesn't the teal make the peacock feathers pop?  Love it!  She also requested a small one with peacock feathers

I am loving the peacock feathers, especially since they are so popular right now!  What do you think?

Rolled Rosette Hair Clip

Hello Hello Hello!!

Thanks for stopping by!  If you've seen any of my posts before, you know that I love making hair clips.  I love it so much that I think some time soon I might try to sell them.  

In the meantime, do you want to see my newest hair clip obsession?!

What do you think?!  I've made the rolled rosette for a long time, but I love putting them together with tulle and gems! So much fun!  Last night I went a bit 'hair clip crazy'!  Look what else I made

Baby Gift Basket

Hello there and Happy Tuesday!  Did you enjoy your Labor Day?!  I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, and it was Fabulous!!  

So, if you've read this blog at all, you know I love making hair clips.  I get excited anytime I learn a friend is having a girl, and I start planning what I'm going to make.  Last month my managers wife had her first beautiful baby girl, so all of my fellow employees and I got together to make a fun basket for her.  I had so much fun with this one!  We each bought a couple of outfits, and then it was up to me to make matching hair clips!  YAHOO!!  My favorite part!  You want to see how the basket turned out?!  Of course you do! 

So fun, right?!!

Do you want to see how I did it?!

First of all, look at these adorable receiving blanket cupcakes!

I found the idea for these over at Cute As a Fox .  She has a great tutorial on how to make them, so go check it out!  I made four of them, since the pack of receiving blankets I bought had four in it.  Here's where I placed them

 The one on the top in the middle was made with cute little ruffle socks in the middle that I found at dollar tree.  Instead of rolling the sock in the middle like the tutorial said, I just bunched the socks together so the ruffles were on the top.  Then I just rolled the receiving blanket around them.  I love the look of that one!

Did you see the cute little candies wrapped in cellophane?  I found that idea at the same website, Cute As a Fox.  These are made with baby washcloths!

I thought the candy rolls added some fun to the basket!

I bought a couple toys since this is their first girl.  I found the bear at Dollar Tree, cut off the cheap ribbon it came with, and glued on a nice big pink bow that made it look so much cuter.

To finish off the basket, I HAD to make matching clips for each of the outfits.  Some of the outfits were onesies or pajamas, but I made a clip for each one, knowing she can use them for other outfits.  I used the same technique that I used when I made THIS basket for my friend.  On the bottom I put a layer of diapers, folded in half, as a kind of filler.  And really, what mom couldn't use more diapers, right?!  Then I took each of the outfits, rolled them, and put a headband around them.  Since we had so many outfits I wasn't able to do headbands on all of them.  So for the rest I just used some cheap pearl ribbon/string that I had in my craft stash.  This made it so I could clip each of the hair clips on the front of the outfit.  Here are some of the hair clips I made

Ok, have I said that I love making hair clips?! Yes? Maybe once or twice!?  Well, I love it!  I didn't take a picture of the pink burned silk flower, because I showed it HERE.  I also learned how to make a new kind of felt flower(the one pictured on the polka dot outfit in the middle) so I'll show you how to make those next week! :)  Are you sick of hair clips yet!?!  Sorry if you are!  I'm sure the obsession will pass sooner or later!

More Hair Clips!!

This last weekend, a few of my girlfriends and I got together for a bow making night!  We got tons accomplished, and were able to get some girl talk in while we were at it!  So much fun!  I didn't get a picture of the other ladies bows, but I wanted to share a few of the bows I made.  

Again, forgive me for the picture quality!  It's the best I can get with my ipod.  Thanks for understanding!!

My first and favorite one is this layered look.

I was just fiddling around with the ribbon, and thought this looked adorable!  This could be done with so many different color combinations, and it's so cute!

I also love the orange and yellow flower clip on the bottom.  My friend Lindsey showed me how to make those ones, and I am in love!! They are so cute but yet so simple to make! 

This is another one of my favorites!  I love the layered boutique bows!  I'll definitely be making more of these!

I got the coordinating ribbon from Joann's.  I love the pink and brown color combo.

These next flowers are just like the ones I made HERE and HERE.

I'm still loving the burned silk.  The creme one was just silk, but the pink one I layered silk and tulle.  The tulle gives is a little sparkle, which is fun!  I glued a ribbon-covered clip to the back of the flower for most, but some I did this.

I cut a circle of felt, and cut two slits in it.  Then I glued the circle to the back of the flower, making sure not to glue the middle of the circle at all.  This makes it so you can either wear the flower on a clip, or you can slip it onto a headband and wear it that way.  Love it!

Camp Crafts

Life has been slightly busy around my house lately.

Right now I am at Girls Camp for church and I'm loving it.
I am helping with Camp Crafts, which I feel is right up my alley.
I thought I would show you what we're going to be doing,
in case you want to use some of the ideas for your family or your ward.

The main craft I'm in charge of, I found over at The How-To Gal.

I love these felt flowers and they are SO easy to make.
I also made it so you can switch it from a headband to a clip.
I know the girls are going to enjoy it.
Some tips I have, since I am making these for about 100 girls.

*Get a white stamp pad for the color felt and a black stamp pad for the white felt.
I ended up using a Rubbermaid bowl as a stencil and just stamped directly on the felt.
It makes for easier cutting and just saves TONS of time!

* When cutting the base, I found a Triangle with the corners cut off works really well.

*If you want a flower that doesn't stand up really high on your head,
don't cut your flower so thick.

Totes (but we're using regular material)
Washer Necklaces And Camp Journals
Paracord Bracelet (we're just going to knot them though)

{Re-Purposing Baby Headbands}

(Sorry here's another hair bow post...hope you are not sick of them yet)

My Mother in Law, Barbara (aka Mother Hen) gave these cute little headbands to me when had our baby girl 7 months ago. Needless to say she has grown since then. Not only has she put on a few pounds, her head has gotten ginormous. These cute little headbands just don't fit anymore. I love the cute little bows on them (since I am NOT GOOD at making bows of my own I really like pre-made bows) and just didn't want to get rid of them so I got to thinking how I could still use them. So being some what crafty I decided to cut the bows off and make clips out of them.
I just covered those little sliver alligator clips with ribbon and then glued on the bow.
So easy and simple and now I have new hair clips that can be attached to other head bands that actually fit my baby's head or I can use them in 3 year old's hair.

I just had a little box that I kept all my girl's hair stuff in and it was getting a little full. I have always wanted to make a hair bow holder so I thought now is a good time. I headed to my local thrift store and found an inexpensive big frame ($3 to be exact). I also headed to Wal-Mart to pick up some spray paint to re-paint the ugly colored frame. So my ugly frame became this with a little bit of sanding, painting, gluing, fabric, & ribbon.

I thought it turned out pretty cute....what do ya think? I wanted it be girly but still a little neutral (that's why the frame is painted brown) because it is hanging in our bathroom and I didn't want too much girly-ness to take over for the sake of the boys in our family.
And sorry there are no before or during pictures....I forgot!!!

Hair Clips for Mommy

Hello there!! I've been on a hair clip kick for the last couple of weeks, so that's what I'll be sharing with you again today! My good friend Natasha turned 30 a couple weeks ago. Since I know she likes to wear flowers in her hair, I figured I'd make her a few hair clips.
I wanted these to be a bit more classy, since they were for an adult.
Here's the first one one I came up with

What do you think? All I did was take the flower apart, and glue it back together piece by piece. For the center, I used a bigger pearl that I had, and surrounded it with mini pearl beads. I glued a larger hair clip to the back of the flower. I really like these hair clips that I found at Joann's that stay a lot better in an adults hair.

The next flower I made using blue silk fabric from my stash.

This one took a little bit more time. I cut circles out of the blue silk, and cut every other circle out of some grey tulle I found in the remnant basket at Joann's. Once you have all the circles cut, you burn the edges of each circle. This is what makes them curl up. At first I tried burning the edges of the tulle too, but in the end I think it looks better leaving the tulle unburned. Here's what the tulle looked like when it was burnt.

I definitely like it better leaving the tulle as it is.

I didn't get a picture of the back, but I glued this flower to a circle of felt. Then I glued another circle of felt to the first circle, but I only glued the sides of the circle. This left the middle part of the circle unglued, so she could slide it onto a headband or slide a clip through the gap, and just put it in her hair. I made another accessory that I didn't get a picture of either. I made three rolled felt flowers, glued them in a bunch on a piece of felt, and then glued another piece of felt to the back, leaving the middle unglued. I liked how versatile all these hair clips were, so that she could use them in so many different ways!

Flower Hair Clips

A few of my friends have had baby girls lately, and I've been loving that I have an excuse to make cute little hair things again! I bought a few outfits for each of the babies, and am making a hair clip to match each. I am in love with this first hair clip I made, and will definitely be making a few for my little girls.

Here's what you'll need:

I forgot to picture my trusty glue gun!!

I've had the flower ribbon forever, but I'm pretty sure I got it at Joanns.
The mini pearls and hair clip I found in the jewelry section at Joanns.

So I started out by cutting two pieces of felt to cover the clip with.
You could just as easily use an alligator clip, but I like the look of the felt.

Cut the flower ribbon into individual flowers, and begin gluing them to one of the pieces of felt.
I just did a layer around the outside so you wouldn't be able to see the white felt as much.

Next, I took one of the flowers, put a dab of glue on the center, and put a mini pearl on it.
I kind of folded the petals up over the pearl so when it dried it would appear 3D-ish. :)
I had to make 13 of these to cover the top.

Once you're done covering the top, you need to attach the clip to the other piece of felt.
I put the clip on top of the felt and put dots where I needed to cut.

Cut a line between the dots, and put the clip through

I glued the clip to the felt, and then glued the two pieces of felt together.

And that's it!! I love that you can either put it in their hair or clip it on a headband. So cute!
