Fathers Day Ideas

For Fathers Day Week, I thought I'd share some gifts I've made
in the past for my husband and dad.

I've seen this first one all over blog-land, so I'm not sure who to give credit to.
I made this one for my husband last year.

I printed the letters off the computer, then traced and cut them out of foam board
from the dollar store. I'm going to do this again this year, but I'm going to buy the
letters from Joanns this time since I didn't like how the letters turned out.
I love the idea of doing this every year so you can see how the kids have grown.

We did this one for my dad. Jacki and I are the only siblings that live in California,
so we thought we'd do a picture with the grandkids from Cali.
We just took the kids to a park and started snapping away,
hoping we'd get at least one decent picture!
I didn't realize how hard it would be to get 6 kids to smile at the same time,
but it turned out great and I know my dad loved it.

This next idea is one that we made for my husband last year.
My son Jonathan loves to play checkers with his daddy,
and he wanted to buy daddy a checker set last year.
I thought homemade would be so much better, and came up with this

The board was an old cookie sheet that I didn't like.
I used mod podge and covered it with scrapbook paper.
Then I made a checkerboard, put the names on each side,
and covered the whole thing with another coat of mod podge.
The checker pieces are the decorative flat marbles with a picture mod podged to the back.
Then I hot glued a magnet to the back of each piece. I love that it's magnetic.
We play with it pretty often, and we've only lost one piece in the year we've had it.
The great thing is you can easily make more pieces if you lose one.

The last idea is one I made for my hubby 2 years ago.
It's really simple, but it was one the kids could help with, which was fun.

I made the tie out of white card stock, and then glued green paper to it.
I used eyelets at the top so we could attach string so daddy could wear it.
I traced my kids hands on paper, and let them paint them.
When they were dry I cut them out and glued them to the tie.
We got lots of comments on this tie at church!

Hopefully this week on A Hen and Her Chicks will give you tons of
fun ideas to celebrate the men in your lives!
What are your plans for Fathers Day?

Thanks for reading!
Juli

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I was beginning to feel anxious about what to do for father's day, with a limited budget. This is PERFECT. I can't wait to make them!! I think I am going to make them all. I am even going to do the Grandpa one, and I think I am even going to make a Grandma one (since we didn't get them anything this year and we can make it a set).Plus we can e-mail it to my parents who are on their mission in Europe!! Can't wait!!
